Who We Help

Tax Preparation That Fits Your Life and Business

Your business is one part of your tax picture. We consider your employment income, business activity, and other personal tax needs together—whether you’re growing a side business, transitioning into self-employment, or running your business full time.

Employees with a Business

Have a W-2 job and business income? We prepare individual returns that account for both, whether you’re building a side business, keeping both income streams, or preparing to work for yourself full time.

Self-Employed Professionals

Individual tax preparation for freelancers, consultants, independent contractors, and other sole proprietors. We bring your Schedule C business activity together with the other income, deductions, and credits on your personal return.

Partners & S Corporation Owners

Preparation for individual returns with Schedule K-1 income, plus partnership and S corporation returns when included in your engagement. We help you understand how your business filings connect to your personal return.

Let’s clarify which returns you need. Your filing requirements depend on your income, business ownership, and tax classification. Personal and business returns are scoped separately. During your consultation, we’ll confirm the filings you need and what your quote includes.

What’s Included

More Than a Filed Return

Our preparation process brings together careful review, clear communication, and an explanation you can use.

Preparation & Internal Review

Preparation of the federal and state returns included in your engagement, review of the information provided, and follow-up questions when something needs clarification.

Secure, Organized Communication

Document uploads, requests, and preparation questions through our Canopy client portal, so your information and next steps stay together.

Your Tax Results Package

A summary of your results, a breakdown of the taxes reflected on your return, and practical recommendations to help you understand what deserves attention next.

Review, Authorization & Filing

An opportunity to review your completed returns and ask questions, followed by filing after authorization and copies for your records.

Looking ahead: Preparation may reveal opportunities for estimated payments, recordkeeping improvements, or further advice. Personalized projections and ongoing strategy are available through a separately scoped advisory engagement.

Our Process

Know What Happens Next

First, we meet for a paid consultation to recommend the right service and provide a quote. Once your engagement is in place, preparation follows four clear stages.

  1. Document Collection

Complete your organizer and upload the requested records through Canopy. We’ll let you know what is missing or needs clarification.

  2. Preparation & Internal Review

We prepare your returns, review the details, and send focused questions through your portal as needed.

  3. Client Review & Signature

You receive your returns and results explanation for review. Ask questions, confirm the information, and complete the required filing authorizations.

  4. Filing & Download

We submit your authorized returns, communicate filing status, and make the completed documents available for download.

Preparation timing depends on complete records, return complexity, and timely responses. We’ll communicate any additional needs along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Few Things to Know Before We Begin

Can we work together virtually?

Yes. Our process uses the Canopy client portal for secure uploads, document requests, and communication. You can complete preparation tasks without scheduling a meeting for every step.

What records will I need?

We’ll provide a tailored organizer and document requests. Depending on your situation, these may include prior returns, income forms, deduction records, estimated-payment information, and business financial statements.

How should I send sensitive documents?

Use your Canopy client portal for tax documents and other sensitive information. We’ll provide access and instructions during onboarding.

Are my business and personal returns included in one fee?

They are scoped separately. If you need both, your quote will clearly identify the included returns and services.

What if my bookkeeping is not ready?

Tell us during your consultation. Depending on the records and work needed, a separately scoped cleanup project or referral may be necessary before we can prepare the return.

How long will preparation take?

Timing depends on your return’s complexity, our current schedule, and when complete records are received. We’ll discuss timing and communicate outstanding requests. Uploading documents alone does not confirm a filing date.

What if I need an extension?

Contact us early so we can discuss whether extension support can be included in your engagement. An extension generally gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. We’ll discuss any payment considerations relevant to that work.

Does preparation include ongoing tax planning?

Preparation includes an explanation of your results and practical recommendations. Personalized projections, strategy implementation, and ongoing planning require a separately scoped advisory service.
